COMMENTARY - Fight on, Trump - You magnificent bastard

[Evan Sayet]

My Leftist friends (as well as many ardent #Never Trumpers) constantly ask me if I'm not bothered by Donald Trump's lack of decorum.

They ask if I don't think his tweets are "beneath the dignity of the office." Here's my answer: We Right-thinking people have tried dignity. There could not have been a man of more quiet dignity than George W. Bush as he suffered the outrageous lies and politically motivated hatreds that undermined his presidency. We tried statesmanship.

Could there be another human being on this earth who so desperately prized "collegiality" as John McCain? We tried propriety: has there been a nicer human being ever than Mitt Romney? And the results were always the same.

This is because, while we were playing by the rules of dignity, collegiality and propriety, the Left has been, for the past 60 years, engaged in a knife fight where the only rules are those of Saul Alinsky and the Chicago mob.

I don't find anything "dignified,""collegial" or "proper" about Barack Obama's lying about what went down on the streets of Ferguson in order to ramp up racial hatreds because racial hatreds serve the Democratic Party.

I don't see anything "dignified" in lying about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi and imprisoning an innocent filmmaker to cover your tracks. I don't see anything "statesman-like" in weaponizing the IRS to be used to destroy your political opponents and any dissent. Yes, Obama was "articulate" and "polished" but in no way was he in the least bit "dignified,""collegial" or "proper."

The Left has been engaged in a war against America since the rise of the Children of the '60s. To them, it has been an all-out war where nothing is held sacred and nothing is seen as beyond the pale. It has been a war they've fought with violence, the threat of violence, demagoguery and lies from day one the violent take-over of the universities till today.

The problem is that, through these years, the Left has been the only side fighting this war. While the Left has been taking a knife to anyone who stands in their way, the Right has continued to act with dignity, collegiality and propriety. With Donald Trump, this all has come to an end. Donald Trump is America 's first wartime president in the Culture War.

During wartime, things like "dignity" and "collegiality" simply aren't the most essential qualities one looks for in their warriors. Ulysses Grant was a drunk whose behavior in peacetime might well have seen him drummed out of the Army for conduct unbecoming.

Had Abraham Lincoln applied the peacetime rules of propriety and booted Grant, the Democrats might well still be holding their slaves today.  Lincoln rightly recognized that, "I cannot spare this man. He fights..."

General George Patton was a vulgar-talking, son-of-a-bitch. In peacetime, this might have seen him stripped of rank. But, had Franklin Roosevelt applied the normal rules of decorum then, Hitler and the Socialists would be five decades into their thousand-year Reich.

Trump is fighting.  And what's particularly delicious is that, like Patton standing over the battlefield as his tanks obliterated Rommel's, he's shouting, "You magnificent bastard, I read your book!" That is just the icing on the cake, but it's wonderful to see that not only is Trump fighting, he's defeating the Left using their own tactics.

That book is Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals a book so essential to the Liberals' war against America that it is and was the playbook for the entire Obama administration and the subject of Hillary Clinton's senior thesis. It is a book of such pure evil, that, just as the rest of us would dedicate our book to those we most love or those to whom we are most indebted.

Trump's tweets may seem rash and unconsidered but, in reality, he is doing exactly what Alinsky suggested his followers do. First, instead of going after "the fake media" and they are so fake that they have literally gotten every single significant story of the past 60 years not just wrong, but diametrically opposed to the truth, from the Tet Offensive to Benghazi, to what really happened on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, Trump isolated CNN. He made it personal.

Then, just as Alinsky suggests, he employs ridicule which Alinsky described as "the most powerful weapon of all." ... Most importantly, Trump's tweets have put CNN in an untenable and unwinnable position. ... They need to respond. This leaves them with only two choices. They can either "go high" (as Hillary would disingenuously declare of herself and the fake news would disingenuously report as the truth) and begin to honestly and accurately report the news or they can double-down on their usual tactics and hope to defeat Trump with twice their usual hysteria and demagoguery. The problem for CNN (et al.) with the former is that, if they were to start honestly reporting the news, that would be the end of the Democratic Party they serve.

It is nothing but the incessant use of fake news (read: propaganda) that keeps the Left alive.. Imagine, for example, if CNN had honestly and accurately reported then-candidate Barack Obama's close ties to foreign terrorists (Rashid Khalidi), domestic terrorists (William Ayers), the mafia (Tony Rezko) or the true evils of his spiritual mentor, Jeremiah Wright's church. Imagine if they had honestly and accurately conveyed the evils of the Obama administration's weaponizing of the IRS to be used against their political opponents or his running of guns to the Mexican cartels or the truth about the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and the Obama administration's cover-up.

So, to my friends on the Left and the #Never Trumpers as well do I wish we lived in a time when our president could be "collegial" and "dignified" and "proper"? Of course I do. These aren't those times. This is war. And it's a war that the Left has been fighting without opposition for the past 50 years.

So, say anything you want about this president - I get it - he can be vulgar, he can be crude, he can be undignified at times. I don't care. I can’t spare this warrior. He fights for America!  Fight on you magnificent bastard”

MAGA !!

[PRpond]

Diane Dealey Neill, Secretary of the Amador El Dorado Forest Forum and the Executive Director of Forestry Educators Incorporated will be the guest speaker at the El Dorado County State of Jefferson meeting, on Tuesday, January 9th, at the American Legion Hall, 4561 Greenstone Road, Placerville.

Doors open at 5:30 pm and the meeting begins at 6:30 pm.

In 2011, Diane was the recipient of the Francis H. Raymond award, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to forestry in California.  After Diane's graduation from University of California, Davis, her expertise in plant protection & pest management, plant science and agronomy specializations, opened the door  to a number of career opportunities in California and Florida.

Currently, as coordinator of the Forestry Educators Incorporated, a non-profit corporation, Diane coordinated and created the Challenge, an academic competition for high school students. This 4-day, 3 night event,  uses hands-on experiences to teach technical forestry and forest management, participated by 3 to 5 student member teams.

Attendees will find Diane's knowledge extensive, regarding the history, policies and regulations that have impacted local economies and  overall management  of forests on private and public lands.  Concern has grown greater, recently due to fires and  increased tree mortality caused by recent drought years and bark beetle infestation of millions of trees, adding to the fuel load on forested lands.

Between the hours of 5:30 and 6:30, all are invited to visit with State of Jefferson committee members, while enjoying a hot meal, this month featuring a winter chicken stew, bread, cookies and beverages.

---

The State of Jefferson meetings are the second Tuesday of each month, same time and location. The meetings offer the opportunity to learn more about the Jefferson Movement and the court case that has been filed against the State of California, for lack of representation and dilution of vote.

El Dorado County receives largest-ever grant to help end homelessness

[PRpond]

PLACERVILLE, Calif. January 8, 2018 – El Dorado County Health and Human Services today announced that the County’s Continuum of Care program received nearly $400,000 in federal funding to help end homelessness and fund emergency domestic violence services and enhance coordination among local agencies that handle those issues. It is the largest amount ever awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the Continuum of Care (CoC).

“We are delighted that the El Dorado County Opportunity Knocks program was recognized for these grants as they will greatly increase the vital services that homeless individuals need to help get them off the streets and on to a better way of life,” said Patricia Charles-Heathers, El Dorado County’s Health and Human Services Director.

HUD annually provides one to two rounds of funding to end homelessness through the CoC program, called the Emergency Solutions Grant and the HUD CoC competitions. El Dorado County participated in both competitions in 2017, the most competitive series to date, receiving a combined total of $380,441. Two CoC partner agencies were awarded those funds, the Center for Violence-Free Relationships and Only Kindness, Inc.

The Center for Violence-Free Relationships was awarded $251,111 to support Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter, Supportive Housing Programs for homeless individuals, CoC partner coordination of services, and the CoC database to track client services. Only Kindness, Inc. was awarded $120,000, which will be used for Supportive Housing Programs for homeless individuals.

“Without the countless hours and effort of these two agencies putting together strong applications that met the large demands of the competition, we likely wouldn’t have received these grants,” said Daniel Del Monte, Deputy Director of Community Services. “It’s a tangible example of the success that can be achieved through CoC collaboration.”

National research shows that 75-93% of participants in these types of programs stay stably housed and avoid a return to homelessness.

[PRpond]

A memorial and celebration of the life of California Democratic pollster Jim Moore will take place Friday, January 19, in Napa Valley, his longtime friend and colleague, political consultant David Townsend, announced.

Jim died January 1, in Apple Hill, California, after a long illness. He was 66. Born March 28, 1951, in Arcata, Jim attended Humboldt State University and UC Berkeley and brought his passion for math and physics to politics with his scientific approach to predicting voter behavior. In 1983, he founded J. Moore Methods, Inc., in Sacramento, and went on to become one of California's preeminent Democratic pollsters. For more than 30 years, Jim's clients comprised a who's who of California Democratic politics, from Gov. Jerry Brown to former Senate Leader John Burton to former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown and many others.

Jim also was passionate about the fine Zinfandel grapes he grew on his beloved ranch in Apple Hill. He is survived by his longtime partner in business and in life, Jan Mathews.

Moore had suffered from heart problems and had been in declining health for some time, Jan Mathews, his partner said.  He was 66.

A memorial and celebration of life for Moore will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 at the Chardonnay Golf Club, 2555 Jameson Canyon Road, in American Canyon. A reception will follow.

Donations in memory of Moore may be made to John Burton Advocates for Youth http://www.jbaforyouth.org/ , an independent nonprofit organization, Tax ID 81-2600695, at 235 Montgomery St., Suite 1142, San Francisco, CA 94104.  John Burton Advocates for Youth is a statewide non-profit organization based in San Francisco, working to improve the quality of life for California’s foster, former foster, and homeless youth.  It was founded in 2005 by progressive champion John Burton, a former member of Congress, the California State Assembly and President Pro Tem of the California State Senate. John Burton Advocates for Youth works in three areas: education, housing and health.

The Story of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games Squaw Valley & Lake Tahoe

[PRpond: Img - Squaw Valley 1960 - Alpine Skiing Venues]

On Thursday, February 22, 2018, David C. Antonucci, author of Snowball's Chance: The Story of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games Squaw Valley & Lake Tahoe, will discuss the 1960 Winter Olympics, with a special focus on the games that took place in El Dorado County.

Alpine skiing at the 1960 Winter Olympics consisted of six events, held in the United States at Squaw Valley, California, from February 20–26, 1960. Competitions took place at Squaw Peak (Men's downhill), KT-22 (Women's downhill, Men's slalom and giant slalom) and (Little) Papoose Peak (sub-peak of KT-22) (Women's slalom and giant slalom).

 Attendance and parking are free.

772 Pacific Street, Placerville

The 1960 Winter Olympics, officially known as the VIII Olympic Winter Games, was a winter multi-sport event held between February 18–28, 1960 in Squaw Valley, California, United States. Squaw Valley was chosen to host the Games at the 1956 meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was an undeveloped resort in 1955, so from 1956 to 1960 the infrastructure and all of the venues were built at a cost of US $80,000,000. It was designed to be intimate, allowing spectators and competitors to walk to nearly all the venues. Squaw Valley hosted athletes from thirty nations who competed in four sports and twenty-seven events. Women's speed skating and biathlon made their Olympic debuts. The organizers decided the bobsled events did not warrant the cost to build a venue, so for the first and only time bobsled was not on the Winter Olympic program.

Snowball’s Chance: The Story of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games is the only book devoted solely to chronicling the historic events at Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe. From 30 countries around the world, 665 athletes gathered over 11 days to engage in five recognized Olympic winter sports contested in 27 events. These sports and events included alpine skiing, Nordic combined, cross-country skiing, biathlon, figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey and ski jumping. You-are-there accounts of all competition events with top scores and medal results for each sport are included. Readers will learn about the extensive pageantry and artistic expression of the opening and closing ceremonies produced by the legendary Walt Disney. The 200-page book includes 80-plus photographs by official photographer Bill Briner and others showing historic Olympic venues and athletes in the heat of competition.

About the Author
This book features rare images taken by official Olympic photographer Bill Briner that are complemented with images from public and private collections, some never before published. Using extensive research and oral histories from Olympic athletes and officials, award-winning author David C. Antonucci brings the VIII Olympic Winter Games to life.

Resilience
Researchers have recently discovered a dangerous biological syndrome caused by abuse and neglect during childhood. Join us to watch the documentary Resilience, followed by a discussion afterwards. This film reveals how toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death. While the broader impacts of poverty worsen the risk, no segment of society is immune. Resilience, however, also chronicles the dawn of a movement that is determined to fight back. Trailblazers in pediatrics, education, and social welfare are using cutting-edge science and field-tested therapies to protect children from the insidious effects of toxic stress—and the dark legacy of a childhood that no child would choose.

Paper Tigers
Set within and around the campus of Lincoln Alternative High School in the rural community of Walla Walla, Washington, Paper Tigers asks the following questions: What does it mean to be a trauma-informed school? And how do you educate teens whose childhood experiences have left them with a brain and body ill-suited to learn?

In search of clear and honest answers, Paper Tigers hinges on a remarkable collaboration between subject and filmmaker. Armed with their own cameras and their own voices, the teens of Paper Tigers offer raw but valuable insight into the hearts and minds of teens pushing back against the specter of a hard childhood.

Against the harsh reality of truancy, poor grades, emotional pain, and physical violence, answers begin to emerge. The answers do not come easily. Nor can one simply deduce a one-size-fits-all solution to a trauma-informed education. But there is no denying something both subtle and powerful at work between teacher and student alike: the quiet persistence of love.

For more information on our county's efforts to collaboratively deal with debilitating trauma-induced behaviors that are no longer productive, see this Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1911657692387019/

County Asking for Input Regarding Broadband Improvement at Public Meetings on January 17th in Placerville

PLACERVILLE, CA – El Dorado County is holding a day of public meetings at the County Administrative Offices to gather input for broadband planning and improvement on Wednesday, January 17th. The County is working with consulting firm NEO Connect to conduct a Broadband Feasibility Study to evaluate current broadband resources and identify options for improving connectivity and expanding broadband across the County.

"We are asking for the public's input, along with that of Internet users in particular sectors – health and community service providers, educators, business owners and work-from-home-professionals – to ensure comprehensive Internet development," said Shiva Frentzen, District 2 Supervisor and Board appointee on the Technical Advisory ad-hoc committee. "I encourage public participation as our primary goals are to maximize broadband availability and cost while taking full advantage of available funding opportunities."

Meetings will be held with a focus on the needs of five different audiences: business and professional; public safety (first responders and law enforcement); schools and libraries; healthcare; and the general public. Meetings will be held in the Board Chambers at 330 Fair Lane, Placerville, CA. They will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 6:45 p.m. Below is the schedule for the meetings

Business & Professional -- 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Public Safety -- 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Schools & Libraries -- 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Healthcare -- 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Placerville Progressives Stand up Against Racism at Local Newspaper

$

[Scott Schroeder & Richard Mellor]

So recently our local town newspaper, the Mountain Democrat published a very racist one-sided opinion piece and that same week one of my very close friends and co--workers was attacked by some asshole with racial slurs. Our progressive group organized protests at the paper’s offices.

Citizens of Placerville also took to the streets Monday in the pouring rain to protest the papers decision. The citizens plan on being back every Monday at 12 noon til...???? To inform their community that certain writers employed by the Mountain Democrat may be using the local paper to promote racism? A big kudos to everyone who stood in the rain, in solidarity to fight racism in our community. There was mostly honking and thumbs up of support although some of El Dorado county's less educated spewed their ignorance of hate. Great job to everyone who showed up to battle hate! Another day people of the Placerville community made me proud.

[Scott Schroeder]

                                *****************

Thanks to Scott Schroeder Gerald Greenwood and their neighbors and friends up in Placerville, El Dorado County (CA) organizing against the local paper publishing racist opinion pieces. This is what community means and whenever racism appears or is given space in the mainstream media it is in the interest of all workers to oppose it and oppose it in action, not in silence or the comfort of our living rooms.  For more information about this event or for contact information and other issues in the area go to the El Dorado Country Progressives Facebook Page.

Scott and Heather Schroeder are long time union activists, members of the UFCW.

ProLife Democrats Endorse Cox for Governor

[PRpond]

SACRAMENTO - Today California ProLife Democrats joined with the California ProLife Council, the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee, In supporting John Cox for Governor of California.

"Mr. Cox is taking exactly the right approach in this state. Very few registered Democrats actually agree with the current, unlimited abortion and unlimited government-sponsorship of abortion industry required by Democrat leadership. These voters are looking for common sense on abortion, and some kind of protection for the child in the womb, not radical abortion polices of Newsom and the other Democrats," said Brian Johnston, Chairman of California ProLife.

"Now, with the vocal support of traditionally minded Democrats, John Cox is picking up a vital constituency in this uniquely open, cross-over primary.

Both Doug Ose and Travis Allen can split the RINO (Republican in name only) vote, but throughout California's history, as all Reagan fans know, it is the 'cross-over', traditional-valued Democrat that has been the greatest contributor to Republican victory.

'Abortion supporting Democrats already have a place to vote... it is in their party... the Ose and Travis Allen will be competing for the few, 'moderate (socially liberal) votes of the effete Republican swamp.'

Of all the governor candidates, only John Cox stands without apology for the actual principles of the Republican Party, especially on Life; principles that, as President Trump says, Make America Great'.

Travis Allen demonstrates the threat that Cox poses on the Life issue.. Allen continues to weasel and lie about his voting record and call himself 'prolife' to grassroots activists, but his record has clearly demonstrated both bad votes and intentional avoidance of the issue. To this day Allen has refused to sign a commitment to legally protect a child in the womb, a commitment that every prolife candidate is more than willing to sign.

Newly announced Governor candidate Doug Ose, has a long history of also dismissing the significance of protecting innocent life, and postures as just another Republican 'moderate.'

"Californians of both parties and even "Decline to State" voters... are longing for, and are looking to principled leadership with values and convictions.John Cox is the only candidate on the horizon that fits that bill," said Johnston.

Rebecca Bender - I was trafficked in plain sight

$

THORN
[During Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we’re giving a voice to survivors and those working on the front lines of trafficking. While we’re proud of the results of our tools to identify victims faster, we know that the issue doesn’t end there. The following post was written by Rebecca Bender, co-founder and CEO of the Rebecca Bender Initiative. She is an award-winning, internationally recognized speaker, author and Survivor Leader in the movement to eradicate modern day slavery.]

Usually when I tell people I’m a survivor of human trafficking, they say “Oh, like the movie Taken?”

I think, well, kind of. Except I wasn’t pulled out by one leg while gripping at the carpet. My dad didn’t have a special set of skills to come find me. I definitely was not sold for a million dollars on a yacht. So no, not really like Taken at all.

But it’s interesting because we all do that — survivors included. We envision human trafficking in this little box, because of that one movie we saw that one time. As survivors, we grew up in the same culture as all of you, so we envision it the same way. What happens in Nigeria looks very different than it does in Cambodia, than it does in New York City, than it does in Atlanta.

According to a recent study by Polaris Project, there are twenty five different typologies of exploitation in the United States alone. So if we’re all only thinking of that one way, we’re going to miss the dozens of ways that it looks in our very own communities.

What trafficking looks like

I grew up in a small lumber town in Southern Oregon. I was an average girl, who had never been put in an “at-risk” youth category. I played varsity sports. I was on the honor roll. And I graduated a year early, accepted into Oregon State University. The summer after graduation, I got pregnant and I had to withdraw from my dorm room. I moved in with my parents and had my daughter, but I kept moving forward. I enrolled in community college as a single mom. After all of my friends that had gone off to university moved out of their dorm rooms, they invited me and my daughter to move in with them. I was really excited to get out of my small town.

I realized very quickly though that the vulnerabilities that I had growing up — even in a “good home” — were still there. My parents divorced when I was young and it was an ugly divorce. My mom became a single mom, but by high school things had started to turn around for me. When I went off to college and moved in with my friends, those same vulnerabilities resurfaced.

While all my friends were off doing what college kids do, I was the girl stuck at home with the kid. Until I met the most amazing man. He was funny and charming. He got to know my hopes, my dreams, and my fears. He slowly pushed the boundaries of hypersexuality in my life. After six months of dating, he invited us to move in with him.

See, trafficking is not always abductions. It’s a slow, gradual expansion of boundaries and an increase of trust. The day that my daughter and I arrived in Las Vegas — which is where he moved us to — he forced me into human trafficking. For nearly six years, I was sold between three different traffickers. There were three other women in the home with us and two children.

During that time, I was branded twice. Having two men tattoo their names on my back like a piece of cattle. My face had been broken in five places, I was hospitalized for dehydration and overexhaustion. And I had been to jail seven times.

But I was never kidnapped. Or duct-taped. Or locked in a room with a dirty mattress.

The reality is that my daughter may have gone to school with yours; I may have stood next to you in the grocery store line. And nobody ever noticed. Nobody ever noticed because we all envision that one way. I went through the thought of I got on the plane “willingly”. I got out of the car “willingly”. I didn’t fully understand the complexities of force, fraud and coercion played out in my everyday life.

Thankfully, in 2006 the federal investigators raided the home and in 2007, it allowed me and my daughter an eventual avenue for escape. But I can tell you that running was not the hard part. The hard part was choosing poverty. The hard part was starting over at 26, with an 8-year-old girl, being homeless. The hard part was having a criminal record, a huge gap in job history, and more trauma than any person should live with. The hard part was “what now?”. I escaped, yes, but now the journey began to figure out how to navigate this new world of normalcy with the same vulnerabilities that got me trafficked in the first place.

Creating a path to change

There are many facets to fighting the largest social justice issue of our time. There’s prevention and intervention for vulnerable kids that can lead to their escape. It’s aboutawareness in our different communities, so we can shift the perception of what trafficking looks like in your town. It’s training for those that have the opportunity to intercept and intervene with victims that are being trafficked.

But it’s also about restoration, trauma-informed care, policy reform, and job opportunities that communities can provide. It’s about advocacy and community support for survivors and our families. It’s all of us coming together, using our influence and our passions to truly make a difference in the lives of those in slavery across the world.

The Rebecca Bender Initiative was created to equip communities and professionals on how to identify and respond to human trafficking and to empower the survivors that live in those communities to be change agents and to elevate them to go after their dreams. If you want to change the lives of human trafficking women and children across America, please partner with us today and consider a one time or monthly contribution. rebeccabender.org

Organizations like the Rebecca Bender Initiative are working to provide survivors with much needed resources to aid in recovery and to reduce vulnerabilities that lead to re-victimization. Recovery is a journey, and one that requires support. Aftercare programs are severely underfunded in the US, if you can donate, it will make a difference.

Kniesel's Collision in Northern California Celebrates 50th Anniversary

[BodyShop Business]

This year, Kniesel’s Collision will mark its 50th year in business.

Established in 1968 through the vision of hopeful immigrants, Kniesel’s Collision has grown from a two-car establishment in the heart of Citrus Heights, Calif., to a six-location enterprise spanning three Northern California counties.

Then and Now

The Kniesels were German refugees displaced to Yugoslavia during World War II. In the 1950s, they immigrated to Citrus Heights via Ellis Island, with the help of a sponsorship program of the Lutheran Church.

It was here in the United States that Richard Kniesel’s passion for car repair and his desire to help people came to fruition. In the 1960s, he opened his first repair shop: a modest two-car garage with an office inside the shop itself.

Through the support of the community and industry partners, the business continued to expand, and Richard Kniesel established the first incarnation of Kniesel’s Collision in 1968. His wife, Lilo, and each of their five children joined him at the shop daily.

Together, they worked to ensure that each customer enjoyed the personal, attentive service for which Kniesel’s has become known. “The commitment to an extraordinary customer experience has helped to build a long-standing reputation of excellence around the Kniesel name,” the MSO said.

“As Kniesel’s Collision continues to grow, the company remains strongly rooted in the family’s founding core values: integrity, trust, quality and servant leadership,” the MSO said in a news release. “The Kniesels are extremely proud of their business culture and are committed to upholding the company’s high standards for service excellence.”

Staying committed to the company’s high standards has enabled the family business to stay relevant in an industry required to keep pace with vehicle technology. Kniesel’s has accomplished this “by investing in state-of-the-art equipment and top-level training for [its] team members, all while maintaining its personal touch.”

“We are truly guided by the foundational core values of the Kniesels, coupled with the desire to ‘wow’ each customer who walks through our doors,” CEO Rob Champe said. “This culture has consistently challenged us to excel in an extremely demanding industry. We want to sincerely thank our insurance partners, vendors, loyal customers and dedicated employees for the trust they have placed in Kniesel’s Collision – a trust that has allowed us to thrive over the past 50 years.”

In the 2000s, Kniesel’s Collision has added five locations: in Rocklin (2003), Natomas (2008), Shingle Springs (2012), downtown Sacramento (2012) and Sacramento – X Street (2015).

Nederlandse Kooikerhondje and the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen Gain AKC Recognition

'These are two very different dogs – a duck hunter and a scent hound.'

The American Kennel Club announced that the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje and the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen have received full recognition, bringing the total number of AKC-recognized breeds to 192.

“We’re excited to welcome these two breeds into the AKC family,” said Gina DiNardo, AKC executive secretary. “These are two very different dogs – a duck hunter and a scent hound – and they make wonderful companions for a variety of people.”

Joining the Sporting Group, the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje is a spaniel-type dog that originated hundreds of years ago in Europe as a duck hunter, according to AKC. The breed was also a favorite of Dutch nobility.

Nederlandse Kooikerhondje

"These are energetic, friendly and alert dogs that are ready for work," AKC explains. "They have a moderate activity level, needing regular mental and physical activity to be happy. Their medium-length coat requires weekly brushing to keep it free of tangles."

The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen joins the Hound Group. Bred as a rabbit and hare hunter in France, the GBGV has a great deal of stamina and speed, according to AKC.GrandBassetGriffonVendeen1 head

Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen

"The GBGV is a laidback, intelligent, friendly pack hound that gets along well with other dogs," the group notes. "These dogs are courageous and passionate workers with a high activity level. They need daily vigorous exercise. The GBGV’s coat is rough and straight, and looks tousled and natural. It does need weekly brushing to prevent it from matting."

Both breeds became eligible to compete in their respective groups on Jan. 1.

To become an AKC-recognized breed there must be a minimum number of dogs geographically distributed throughout the U.S., as well as an established breed club of responsible owners and breeders.

State officials work to raise awareness about dangers of human trafficking

$

[PRpond]

Increased awareness has gone in recent years to American children, who run away or are lured from home, and end up trafficked into sexual or domestic slavery. Polaris estimates that the total number of victims nationally reaches into the hundreds of thousands, when estimates of both adults and minors in labor and sex trafficking are aggregated. After The Bee's series was published, so many victims have come forward that the EOC now has to maintain a waiting list, she said. "That's why we have to bring this awareness", said Mckown. She said, "I don't have the age of the stats, but victims in the Central Valley can be as young as 5 years old, and all the way to 70". The children of Asia are among the most vulnerable in the world.

Clark said it's a big problem in cities like Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City. She said in 2005, the Federal Bureau of Investigation designated Chicago as one of the 13 locations of highest-intensity child prostitution.

Anyone who believes they have information about human trafficking is encouraged to call authorities. Probably not! Some would say that they are probably foreigners or poor people. She described South Florida as a trafficking "hotspot". "It is a local problem".

Included in the legislation is the Felony Human Trafficking Act of 2018 which would classify felony human trafficking as a violent act, ensuring that perpetrators get harsher and longer sentences.

"The traffickers gain total control over their victims' lives so that the person has no ability to separate themselves from their tormentors", said Stein, a first-term Democrat.

"What is so lucrative and attractive to these pimps is you can only sell drugs to a customer one time, but you can sell this product over and over and over again", she said.

The keynote speaker of the event was Trisha McKnight, an author and trafficking survivor from Breese. It will be followed by a panel from our partner 3 Strands Global (who provides our school prevention education), and they will share a survivor's story from someone right here in El Dorado County. Describing the extent of trafficking in Merced County, Chee said, "From April 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017, we've identified 56 victims of human trafficking".
