[Cris Alarcon]

Maggie Renfro's funeral is Saturday September 9th at St Patrick's in Placerville.

Rosary at 1pm, service at 1:30.

Editor's note: Maggie helped people in this community for year after year, let us acknowledge her  kindness and return the favor by filling the church on the 9th. C.A.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls for it tolls for thee.

"One by one they pass away, the Brothers and Sisters of our adoption, the Companions of our choice. One whose hand we have clasped in the bonds of Fellowship is now passing from our sight, and we know that we shall meet them on Earth no more."

We can do nothing more of a material nature for the departed. Nevertheless, we can cherish thier memory, and offer the tribute of respect and love to the departed's memory.

Of even greater importance, we can be there to extend our sympathy to the departed's deeply afflicted, and sorrowing, family in their bereavement.

[City of South Lake Tahoe]

The City has received information from our service provider that online meeting agendas, minutes, archived audio and video content may be inaccessible due to a compromised fiber-optic line in the mid-west which impacts multiple clients.

The service provider has not given an estimated time of repair as the issue is beyond their control. They are in the process of rerouting traffic from our agendas and minutes webpage to other circuits, however access may be limited and slower than expected.

Today's Special City Council meeting will be available for viewing after the "live" event. This means that if the meeting concludes at 7:00 pm, then the video will not be available for viewing until after 7:00 pm.

Subscribers will be notified as information is made available and extend our apologies for the inconvenience.

[Carla Hass]

(PLACERVILLE, CA) – El Dorado County’s Department of Transportation will be performing road work with full daily road closures and detours on Carson Road from just West of Jacquier Road to just East of Boege Winery beginning on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 06:30AM - 6:00 PM Repairs are scheduled to continue through August 31st, 2017.

“During this work period, access for local residents, visitors, emergency personnel and law enforcement will be available via Jacquier Road as an alternate route,” said El Dorado County Director of Transportation, Rafael Martinez.

Emergency personnel, schools, and local law enforcement have been notified. Detour information has been posted approximately one week in advance of the daily closure, and will be clearly posted and in effect for the duration of the closure.

“These daily closures are necessary to ensure motorist and worker safety while the County’s maintenance crew’s perform work on the roadway,” Martinez added.

The repairs consist of the installation of a new 24” drainage culvert and paving, this project replaces a failed drainage culvert and section of the roadway east of the Boeger Winery that was damaged during the storms in January and February earlier this year.

Portable changeable message signs will be placed at the approaches to each end of the work zone to keep motorists updated on the schedule for daily road closures. The County sincerely appreciates the cooperation and patience of motorists that use these roadway facilities and we apologize for the inconvenience as a result of this closure.

For questions regarding this maintenance project, please contact the County’s Transportation main line at (530) 642-4909.

[Placerville Police Department]

Placerville, CA – Placerville Police arrest Brian Anton for planting a destructive (explosive) device. On August 27th, 2017 around 5 p.m., Placerville Police officers were called to the area of Ray Lawyer Drive and Forni Road after the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office had relayed information that there was a report of an explosive device in a vehicle. Officers responded to the scene and contacted the owner of the vehicle. The owner told officers that the device was discovered behind the driver’s seat in a black garbage bag.

After an initial inspection of the device, El Dorado County’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team was requested to respond. The EOD team safely collected the device and rendered it safe. The device was a crudely made incendiary device, containing a flammable liquid and shotgun shells. Placerville Police investigated the incident and learned through video evidence that Brian Anton (47 y/o) allegedly planted the device in the victim’s car on August 24th, 2017. It wasn’t discovered until the victim was cleaning out her car a couple days later. After the arrest of Anton, the Placerville Police Department, with the assistance of agents from the ATF (Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms) completed a search of the suspect’s residence and did not any other explosive devices.
Anton was booked into the El Dorado County jail for Penal Code Section 18715 (A)(1),

Possession/Planting of an explosive device and Penal Code Section 1203.2, Violation of probation. Anton is being held without bail at this time.

Sacramento To Pay Killers $1.5 Million To Not Kill People

$

[OFFICER BLUE, bluelivesmatter]

Sacramento, CA – The city of Sacramento is setting aside $1.5 million dollars of taxpayers money to pay gang members to stop killing people.

The city council unanimously approved the “Advance Peace” program in an attempt to address their ongoing problem with violent crime, according to Fox News.

The program pays gang members to graduate school and stop shooting at people. If a gang member wants to start killing people, they’ll be forfeiting their taxpayer-funded payday.

The vote had been scheduled to take place in two weeks, but Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg requested that the vote be moved up after five people were shot in a park.

“Five people were shot in Meadowview on Sunday,” Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said, according to Fox 40. “Let’s get going on doing everything we can to save innocent lives.”

The funding for the payments to the criminal gang members will come from the city’s general fund. The money will go to 50 men who are suspected of killing people, but there’s not enough evidence to prosecute them.

“Fifty is a huge number. That’s 50 shooters who have the possibility of taking a life,” Nicole Clavo said according to KCRA. “If we can reach those 50, how many lives have we changed?”

The Advance Peace program started in Richmond, CA and has been credited by some with reducing murders in the city; Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert disagrees.

“I support the gang prevention task force and the many evidence-based youth mentoring and intervention programs already in existence in the city of Sacramento. I have serious concerns with a program that is apparently based upon the payment of money to high-risk individuals in exchange for a promise not to engage in violent criminal conduct. There is insufficient evidence-based data to show this approach is effective in preventing gun violence.”

Assembly Calls Back Bills Passed in Violation of Prop. 54

[William Kolkey]

SACRAMENTO – Today the State Assembly brought back for a Final Form Concurrence Vote the first of several bills that had passed the Assembly unconstitutionally in April, by violating the 72-hour notice requirement of Proposition 54.

Assemblyman Kiley, who has authored legislation to conform Assembly rules with the requirements of Proposition 54, welcomed the return of the legislation in a speech on the Assembly floor.

“Today’s vote puts the bills on firmer legal footing, and I am glad that Assembly leadership appears to be acknowledging its mistake,” Assemblyman Kiley said. “We should use this unprecedented moment as a reminder that we in the Legislature are bound by the law, and that we work for and at the pleasure of the people of California.”

A concurrence vote on a bill that did not receive amendments or changes in the Senate is unprecedented, and marks a departure from the original position of Assembly leaders, who argued in April that Proposition 54 only applied to a vote in the second house that passed a bill. Efforts to circumvent the transparency requirements of Proposition 54 were criticized by Assembly Republicans, the editorial boards of California’s leading newspapers, and good government groups across the state, including California Common Cause, the League of Women Voters, and California Forward.

Proposition 54 was overwhelmingly passed by California voters last year, and requires that bills be printed, distributed to members, and published on the Internet at least 72 hours before a floor vote in each house of the Legislature.

Five years after a 15-year-old El Dorado High School student died from ingesting a hallucinogenic drug, a Camino man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of possessing and distributing a counterfeit version of LSD that caused the death.
