Pimlott - "Denied families of fallen heroes their Death Benefits says Cockrell"

$

[Write-In District 2 Candidate Chris Cockrell]

District 2 and Cameron Park deserve better than this Pimlott guy.

PLEASE READ: Here some of the facts about the ring leader of an administration circus, Ken Pilott. He uses employees as shields, he denied families if fallen heroes their much needed death benefits, he created a slush fund of taxpayers monies for his own use and he covered up over forest harvesting so his boss and his bosses friends could benefit from it.

There were over 21 families that deserved the fire fighter’s death benefit. The families sacrificed everything for the citizens of California. I was ordered by Ken Pimlott and Janet Barentson not to disclose the law that would have given these families a boost. Instead these families, wives and children struggled. Foreclosed homes, college benefits denied and suicidal thoughts set in. The main bread winners who were gone over half the year fighting fires were gone…

During the academy investigation, the number two ranked member of the departments law enforcement division stated “you can’t trust Ken Pimlott and Janet Barentson, they are dirty” and “they have broken many laws, but the local DA offices won’t do anything about it because of who they are”. These statements were swore statements.
Also during the hearings for the academy investigation, it was exposed that Pimlott knew about the drinking. Including a detailed time and place Pimlott was present where drinking of employees in uniform on state time was taking place. Pimlott refused to take the stand instead was allowed to give a written statement where he couldn’t be questioned. He denied knowing anything.

Pimlott created a slush fund from fines for his own use, which provided him protection. While overseeing the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Pimlott had an illegal slush fund created with fine money from money recovered from the citizen and companies of California. He would use this money disguised as a “grant” given to different District Attorney Offices of the recovery money. This was found to be illegal and shut down. Buying he get out of jail card as was described by his own law enforcement section of CAL FIRE. All the uniformed chiefs involved were promoted by Pimlott after the findings showed it was illegal to have this fund which he knew about. He used state funds, to buy he loyalty by promoting people who would protect him.

Pimlott’s forestry protection section of CAL FIRE order to look the other way when the second largest forest products company was over harvesting over an estimated $200,000,000 worth of board feet. This company happens to be owned by the same family who owns GAP clothing line. The now former CFO, Anna Brown, wife of former Governor Jerry Brown, Pimlott’s boss.

Pimlott promoted and protected the “loyal to the throne”. During the academy investigation the number two assistant chief admitted to having 12 prostitutes while on duty, using a state vehicle and state fund to pay for the room. He was promoted two ranks up before Pimlott left office. The top academy chief who admitted to the knowledge of the drinking and that one of the employees was using Red Book to find prostitutes including the prostitutes then Battalion Chief Moe Fleming, who received numerous awards from Pimlott, murdered that sparked the academy investigation, has now been promoted three ranks, the first was a week before discipline was passed out to academy staff. Another person was promoted a few ranks up even though it was proven he lied about a fire investigation cause, collected money for the slush fund, which all had to be returned.

Anyone of Pimlott’s scandals should have had him thrown out of office. Instead he will have an approximate $230,000 a year retirement of taxpayer money the rest of his life to fund his next political life.

Full discloser, I was the fall guy for Pimlott. I refused to turn on the families and my employees that were under me was order to. I am still fighting for my job and more importantly my Department to right so much destruction Pimlott’s administration did.

Pimlott you decided to step into an open political space. I will publish the truth at ever corner. I am not even close to being done with exposing you.

I have all the documentation to prove the above. I will be happy to share it.
Mike Ramirez, former Cal Fire Division Chief

Camino School Receives Latrobe Fund Grant for Generator

[Dina Gentry, EDCOE Communications Director]

The Camino Union School District (CUSD) will have the ability to keep their food storage safe during power outages thanks to a $12,000 grant from the Latrobe Fund that CUSD received in 2019. The generator was installed in October by Carnahan Electric and receives fuel from propane provided by Ferrell Gas. “This generator gives CUSD the ability to keep our freezer and refrigerator running when the school loses power,“ CUSD Superintendent/Principal Matt Smith explained. “Thank you to the Latrobe Fund, Carnahan Electric and Ferrell Gas for making it possible.”

The PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events caused CUSD to close their doors a total of seven days during the 2019-20 school year. These events threatened the school’s large food supply which is delivered once per month. “The concern was that we could lose over $30,000 worth of food if our freezer and refrigerator were shut down due to no power for any significant time. At one point, we were without power for three days. The generator allows us to keep our freezer and refrigerator running regardless of power,” Smith continued.

Almost 60% of CUSD students are on a Free and Reduced Lunch program, and their Title One School status allows them to receive significant deliveries of food from USDA. The first power outage lasted three days and took place after a large USDA delivery. They would have lost their product. “Carnahan Electric and Ferrell Gas went well out of their way to make sure our generator was up and running through the power outages, and we lost none of our food. The generator was installed the day before the power outage, but we couldn’t get the propane gas hooked up in time. Ferrell Gas brought us 100 gallon tanks of propane and hooked up our generator in a temporary fashion to get us through the first days of outage. Then they came back and did our permanent hook up for propane, just in time before the second outage. On the day of the second outage, Carnahan and Ferrell were able to get everything hooked up and running before the outage,” Smith added.

The Latrobe Fund was founded in January 2019 by two philanthropists who reside in the Latrobe and Lake Tahoe areas. Grants are generally awarded to causes supporting the environment, nature, animals, history, art,  seniors, First Responders, children and families in need, transition of foster children to adulthood and education. In 2019, the Latrobe Fund awarded 62 grants totaling $402,750 to 34 non-profit organizations including $20,000 in scholarships to El Dorado County high school seniors. For more information on grant opportunities, contact their Director of Funding Liz Drummond at (916) 804-9799.

[Pleasant Hill Police Department]

Photo provided by Pleasant Hill Police Department on March 21, 2018.

SAN FRANCISCO – Duane Kurt Makela was sentenced to 97 months in prison in connection with ten armed bank robberies, seven unarmed bank robberies, and two attempted bank robberies across Northern California, announced Northern District of California Acting U.S. Attorney Adam A. Reeves, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott of the Eastern District of California, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett.

The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Charles R. Breyer, Senior U.S. District Judge.

Makela, 50, of Oakland, pleaded guilty to the charges on October 3, 2019.  Makela admitted in open court that between March 2018 and February 2019, he committed or attempted to commit 19 robberies of banks and credit unions largely located in the San Francisco Bay Area but also in towns in or near the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  As part of his plea, Makela agreed that he entered the banks and credit unions and demanded that employees hand over money.  Makela further acknowledged that during each armed robbery, he brandished what appeared to be a handgun and directed employees of the banks and credit unions to hand over money.  In total, Makela stole $69,002.

Makela robbed or attempted to rob the following banks and credit unions on the following dates:

On May 7, 2019, a federal grand jury indicted Makela, charging him with four counts of armed bank robbery, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2113(a) and (d), and one count of unarmed bank robbery, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2113(a).  On September 25, 2019, Makela waived his right to indictment and to venue for those charges arising out of the Eastern District of California, and he was arraigned on a superseding information alleging the above-listed crimes.  On October 3, 2019, Makela pleaded guilty to all 19 counts in the superseding information.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Breyer ordered Makela to serve a three-year period of supervised release and ordered full restitution to the victim banks and credit unions.

Northern District of California Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Walsh is prosecuting the case with the assistance of Rosario Calderon and Margoth Turcios.  Eastern District of California Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Rodriguez assisted.

The prosecution is the result of investigations by the FBI with assistance from the police departments of Pleasant Hill, Orinda, Daly City, South Lake Tahoe, Oakland, San Ramon, Palo Alto, Roseville, Burlingame, Mountain View, South San Francisco, and Alameda, as well as the Contra Costa County, El Dorado County, Marin County, and Alameda County Sheriff’s Offices.

TRPA Streamlined Permitting in Tahoe

[Carla B. Hass]

PLACERVILLE, CA – Starting January 28, 2020, El Dorado County will begin processing additional permits on behalf of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), saving property and business owners money and time.

Protecting Lake Tahoe’s environment is the paramount goal of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).

A TRPA permit is required for most construction projects inside the Lake Tahoe Basin. This runs the gamut from the addition of a new deck to a sign for a new business. In addition to the residential permitting that the El Dorado county already performs on TRPA’s behalf, the county’s Community Development Services Department will now offer a one-stop shop for customers requiring TRPA permits for certain commercial and multifamily projects located in the county.

Services will include TRPA verifications to determine a property’s development potential, qualified exempt activity permits for minor exterior and interior improvements, and permits for new signs and temporary activities. El Dorado County staff are available to shepherd projects through the entire project review process, ranging from conceptual project design to permitting and inspections.

“Streamlining more TPRA permits is a huge time saver for our property and business owners,” said Sue Novasel, El Dorado County District V Supervisor. “Our staff is trained and ready to help customers process their projects.”

“A core principle of the 2012 TRPA Regional Plan was to streamline permitting at Lake Tahoe, while still protecting the environment,” said Joanne Marchetta, TRPA’s Executive Director. “This is an important step in support of the local economy and public service.”

TRPA will continue to process all permitting for lakefront developments, as well as large commercial, recreation, and tourism development projects. All projects, regardless of size, requiring an environmental impact statement will continue to be permitted by TRPA.

El Dorado County Community Development Services is located at 924 B Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe and at 2850 Fairlane Court in Placerville, California. For more information, please call (530) 573-3330 or go to www.edcgov.us/Government/building.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency leads the cooperative effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region, while improving local communities, and people’s interactions with our irreplaceable environment. For additional information, contact Chris Larson, Public Information Officer, at 775-589-5278.

[CBS]

A cat in the Highland Park neighborhood could have been in serious trouble when three coyotes came along.

But Max, who belongs to Maya Gurrin, showed amazing courage, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Max was surrounded, and the coyotes were nipping at him. But Max showed no fear. He even caused one of the coyotes to back away and jump onto a nearby wall.

“He’s always been crazy,” Gurrin said. “Like, if this were to happen with any cat, it would be him.”

The entire scene was captured on security camera.

As tough as Max may be, his owners have nonetheless decided not to let him roam outdoors anymore.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Folsom Dam Raise

[California Water News]

Earlier this week, State and Federal officials held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially launch work on a nearly $400 million project to raise the Folsom Dam 3.5 feet. The project is expected to take five years to complete and will include rock and soil fill and rip-rap on the eight earthen berms that bracket Folsom Lake.

Representative Doris Matsui (CA-05) delivered remarks at the event.

“Today’s groundbreaking is the realization of a vision that took shape a long time ago. The spillway will increase our regional flood protection, making all of us safer. We must continue the progression of our region’s flood protection,” said Rep. Matsui.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing the project that aims to add flood protection and water storage to the near 1-million-acre-foot reservoir.

The dam-raise work involves packing rock, gravel, dirt and pavement on top of the earthen portions of the dam and dike system increasing the height to 344 feet.  Engineers said the extra dam height will create an additional 43,000 acre feet of storage and offer better protection during a major flood event.
