Did you know El Dorado County Senior Programs are for 50+ not 60 or over?  Yes they are!  As one of the Commissioners  for District 1, in El Dorado County-I have the opportunity to speak with others about the many programs offered in our fine County.  This last week-I sat in on a Presentation given by Raelene Nunn, our District 1 lead person for the Commission on Aging.  This Commission advocates for Seniors, present and future.  The COA is a voluntary advisory committee to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, and is instrumental in helping to make services accessible to all Seniors.

Raelene set me straight, as I did think the Senior Centers only catered to those over 60 years of age.   Did you know you can have Nutritious meals delivered right to your door? Or that you could get FREE legal Services? and the "Senior Times" Newsletter is offered for only $5.00 a year-delivered right to your mailbox.  There is also a Family Caregiver Support group/program.   We hope the Taxi voucher program/"Dial a Ride" for $3.00 a ride, through EL Dorado Transit-doesn't get cut in the process of balancing our budget-at least for now, that will be a program available until June 30th.  Check in end of next month for an update on all programs...

The Senior Center has many Fitness programs-popular ones too, like Zumba! Also Peer Counseling, Special Events, Fabulous Group Trips to places like Nova Scotia and Iceland!  The list goes on and on...

Our County Senior Services is responsible for several other prgrams, as well, such as:

Adult Day Care services, Alzheimer's Support, AARP Smart Driver safety course, Employment services, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Prgm, Long term care Ombudsman, Resource Computer Center, "You are not alone" (YANA) Telephone Reassurance Program, Photography classes, crafts, cooking, Dance and Theater...and STILL more.  For more details on any of the above- Give Rebecca Todd a call-916-358-3575 at the Lasssen Lane center, or in Cameron Park at the Community Center on Country Club Lane 530-677-2231 or in Placerville on Spring Drive 530-621-6150.
