The Center's Mary B recognized for her outstanding work with Domestic violence victims and survivors

Soroptimist International of Placerville, an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, presented their 2017 Ruby Award to Mary Bullock for her dedication to helping women through her service at the Center for Violence-free Relationships.

The Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women, honors women who — through their professional or personal activities — make extraordinary efforts on behalf of women and girls.

For more than 30 years Bullock or Mary B as she is known by her clients has worked diligently behind the scenes to lift up and empower women who are victims of domestic violence.

Mary B started working at the Center as a volunteer in 1985. She eventually took a full-time job as a counselor in 1988 and began seeing clients one-on-one and answering the center’s 24/7 crisis support line. She also began running support groups for victims of domestic violence.

With her gentle manner and her wise and kind words, Mary B leads these women on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. She helps them understand what abuse looks like and helps them realize that they matter and they deserve to be loved and treated with respect.
