OPINION - As far back as last year, the City Council met with the Progressive Party of EDC in private (in violation of Brown act) to discuss BLMs plan to protest in Placerville. Latter the council members said it wasn't a violation because the City attorney said it wasn't. (which is bunk)
It was reported that councilmen told them that they couldn't do it (remove noose & name change) without their (Progressives) help & that they needed them to write letters & phone calls to make it appear as if there was a demand by the public to force these changes. Being good party members that's what they did. Planned protest at courthouse, letters & phone calls demanding changes.
The council need this to cover their plan to make it appear there was mass support to make the change by executive action.
What they didn't expect was the out cry from the public to leave our name & symbols, & history alone.
Well when it became public information about their private meetings (in violation of the Brown act) they received mass objections to the planned changes.
As more complaints about there private meetings began to grow, they tabled the issue & said they would let the voters decide & would put the issue on the ballot, that was their promise.
Well now months later they are again trying to go back & Make it appear as if they have to take it away from the voters & make an executive decision. So it comes down to this LET THE VOTERS DECIDE PUT IT ON THE BALLOT. KEEP YOUR PROMISE.
This whole issue is created because our councilmen don't want it to be decided by the voters, because the know that the vast majority want to keep our name & history intact. So they keep trying make it an issue & they want to find a way appease the Progressive Party of EDC, who have made it an issue.
The P.P. have started first to remove the noose, the name Hangtown, then go after any businesses that have the name Hangtown by means of protest, boycott, even riots if they don't get their way.
You see that council members Thomas, Borelli, & Sarasota believe that they have the power, but they don't, the voters of Placerville have the power.
They hope we'll forget they promised to let the matter go to the voters, we won't.
LET THE VOTERS OF PLACERVILLE DECIDE, KEEP YOUR PROMISE.
