Placerville awards $2.7 million project for new Highway 50 on-ramp

The city of Placerville’s decades-long project to improve the west part of the city’s connectivity with U.S. Highway 50 is moving ahead. Construction on a new eastbound freeway on-ramp from Ray Lawyer Drive could begin soon.

Placerville City Council awarded the $2.7 million construction contract to Doug Veerkamp General Engineering Inc. at its meeting Tuesday.

City Engineer Rebecca Neves said the total $3.9 million  ...


Neves said the new interchanges at Ray Lawyer Drive allow drivers on the freeway easier access to the El Dorado County Library and county administration buildings.

“It does provide direct access to the county government center,” Neves said.

Eventually, Neves said, the city plans to build a new county courthouse near Ray Lawyer Drive, on the south side of the freeway, to replace the 115-year-old courthouse on Main Street.
