Mormon Emigrant Trail Reopens

[ENF]

The Mormon Emigrant Trail, a route that connects Highway 50 with Highway 88, re-opens to through traffic with snow warning.  Located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the road is paved and runs between Sly Park Road and Highway 88 near Silver Lake. The road isn’t plowed in winter and is therefore impassable above the snow line. It becomes dangerous to drive on when it ices up and accumulates snow. The road is a delight to drive, with every kind of twist and turn and offers great views. It was originally named Iron Mountain Road but it was renamed in the 1980s to commemorate the journey of the 47 men and one woman of the former Mormon Battalion.

ROAD UPDATE - "Many of our roads are clearing up and North/South Road can safely be traveled throughout. The west end of MET is clear but a defined snow line begins shortly after Light Canyon. Beyond that much of the road is limited to a single track and the deep snow on either side can provide a challenge if an oncoming vehicle is met."
