[El Dorado County District V Supervisor, Sue Novasel]
California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) conducted an Engineering and Traffic Survey on Highway 50 in and around the town of Strawberry.
The survey found that the 85th percentile speed averaged 10 to 16 MPH faster than the existing speed limit of 45 MPH. This 45 MPH speed zone could be a potential Speed Trap per California Vehicle Code (CVC) 40802. This can make proper enforcement of the 45 MPH zone difficult for CHP to enforce and hold up in court. The Caltrans report also takes into account the collision data which is lower than the statewide average. Therefore, Caltrans is proposing to raise the speed limit to the maximum speed limit of 55 MPH (CVC 22349).
I have requested, and Caltrans has approved, that the comment period be extended to June 5, 2020. If you have concerns about Caltrans proposal, please send your written comment to Darryl Brown at the address below by June 5th. Comments will then be forwarded to Caltrans.
