[District V Supervisor, Sue Novasel]

Job seekers will have the opportunity to connect one-on-
one with employers during the Tahoe Works Virtual Job & Resource Fair, May 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Presented by the Tahoe Chamber in partnership with ADVANCE and El Dorado County, the online event will include job postings for a variety of positions in the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, resources for job seekers, and business resources for owners looking to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.

The virtual job fair is expected to attract a large pool of candidates both in and out of the basin with a variety of full-time, part-time, entry-level and experienced positions. Easy access to the fair will be provided to prospective employees and employers through an online portal from Easy Virtual Fair that allows the two groups to connect. The platform includes recruiting software that is entirely mobile, requires no downloads, and allows employers to set up a virtual booth that lists available positions, a company profile and social media profiles, as well as to arrange meetings with applicants. Job seekers
can sign up prior to the fair, upload their resumes, view postings and communicate with participating companies. The virtual event is free for candidates and registration is available at https://tahoejobfair.easyvirtualfair.com/.

“The coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of uncertainty in both the job market and the business
community, leaving many people not knowing how best to get back to work.” said Emily Abernathy, Tahoe Chamber Director of Operations. “This virtual event will allow job seekers and businesses to make connections and together emerge from this crisis.”

This job and resource fair will be an essential step in getting the South Shore economy up and running, as it provides candidates with direct employment opportunities and help to businesses as they gear up for reopening. The provided online portal will allow individuals to have multiple conversations at once with a number of companies, have any questions about the position answered and communicate directly with a recruiter instead of blindly sending a resume or application.

Applicants will also have access to resource agencies to assist in the hiring process, resume building, interview tips, and information about unemployment. These agencies will include ADVANCE, Lake Tahoe Community College, Tahoe Magic, Golden Sierra Job Training Agency, and JOIN Inc.

Business owners and operators are also invited to register for the job fair to access multiple channels of resources provided by local business development partners, including the Sierra Small Business Development Center. SBDC offers free one-on-one business coaching, and is an incredibly effective local resource to help businesses great up and get back on track.

Tahoe Works will provide a chance for companies to build up their teams and their brands by reaching those living outside of their local area. Similar to job seekers, a virtual job fair reduces overhead costs for companies with online booths and the ability to connect with multiple prospects in an easy-to-access platform. Recruiters can then follow up with promising leads for in-person interviews after creating their shortlist during the event.

Employers that are Tahoe Chamber members may register for a virtual booth for $25 while non-members may register for $50. The deadline to register for a virtual booth is May 15, 2020. Additional information is available on the Tahoe Chamber website.
