South Lake Tahoe, CA - On June 1, 2018 officers and detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) conducted a “Bait Bike” operation in the 3900 block of Pioneer Trail. Joel Morris, age 27, and Ramon Saldana Madrigal, age 36, both of South Lake Tahoe, were arrested for Grand Theft after being caught stealing the SLTPD owned bicycle.
The “Bait Bike” was stolen within minutes of being placed in a public area.
Morris was found to be on probation and in possession of drug paraphernalia during his arrest.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department would like to remind people to secure their bicycles with quality locks to deter thefts and have a record of the bicycle description including the serial number in case the bicycle is lost or stolen.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) through the department’s Grant Assistance Program.
