(PLACERVILLE, CA) – El Dorado County Department of Transportation today announced the full closure of Newtown Road beginning Monday, May 14, 2018 through August 7, 2018, weather permitting. Newtown Road will be closed approximately 2.0 miles from the intersection of Newtown Road/Fort Jim Road (Placerville side) to the intersection of Newtown Road/Fort Jim Road (Pleasant Valley side).

This closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of the Newtown Road Storm Damage Repair Project. Repairs include removal of fallen trees and slide debris, construction of a mechanically stabilized embankment wall, drainage improvements, and reconstruction of the roadway structural section.

Changeable message signs notifying the traveling public of the upcoming closures were placed on Newtown Road at the westerly side of the project and at the intersection of Fort Jim Road/Newtown Road (Pleasant Valley side).

Access for local residents and visitors will be via Fort Jim Road per the attached Detour Plan. All temporary traffic control devices, including signage, will be installed per the most recent California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Department of Transportation employees understand the inconvenience that motorists face while this closure is in place and sincerely appreciate your patience with this matter.
