"It said 75% off Thursday !! The store was empty and never opened today." Styles for Less filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganization protection November 6, 2017. That filing was last updated on 12/28/2017, the day the store did not open.
Several people were left standing in the cold at the advertised 75% off sale in the 3966 Missouri Flat road Styles for Less because the store was already emptied and remained locked up tight!
Angry customers took to local Facebook forums to express their concerns. Many had just received an email alert for the sale from Styles the day before. And many took their recently received holiday-time Gift Cards to do some shopping.
Rosemarie Taylor of Diamond Springs wrote, "...Had no problem selling gift cards... Their store was locked up empty today... After I got a notice on my phone last night ... Big 75 % Off entire store today" and added, "The girls response to me today... Well I guess you're screwed !!!!!"
"They sent the notice last night that the storewide 75% off sale started today [Thursday]. I was there at 9:30 and the store was empty, except for 4 or 5 items" Rosemarie Taylor explained.
It is not just the Placerville store that closed without notice, so has the local area stores in Folsom, Sunrise (Arden), and also the store in Lake Tahoe.
Jamie Brooke said that the same thing happened to her with Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill. Kathy Gray-Cunha wrote, "Omg I almost bought gift cards but decided at the last minute not to. So glad I didn’t."
Several people suggested that those with pre-paid gift cards go online and shop as soon as possible. This seems good advice since this round of store closures follows 55 other stores closed recently in a draconian cost-cutting effort.
Styles for Less filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, hoping to avoid the rapidly expanding graveyard of mall retailers as the Internet wreaks havoc. The company, known to many of its fans as Styles, filed for court protection from its creditors in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Central District of California. Anaheim, Calif.-based Styles cited a range of $10 million to $50 million in assets and the same range of liabilities.
In November Styles had 93 stores and more than 613 employees in California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Florida, according to a bankruptcy court filing. This is after the company said it had already closed 55 stores, laid off 311 employees, cut salaries and slashed expenses in a turnaround bid.
Styles joins a growing list of fashion retailers that have tumbled into bankruptcy court in 2017, including Payless ShoeSource, rue21, Gymboree and True Religion.
Styles For Less, Inc. retails clothing, shoes, and accessories for women and juniors in the United States. The company sells products through its retail stores and online. Styles For Less, Inc. was founded in 1992 and is based in Anaheim, California.
In a key development on Dec 14th, Styles For Less, Inc. filed a motion in the US Bankruptcy Court for approval of auction procedures to select a liquidation agent. The debtor sought the Court’s approval on an agency agreement to conduct store-closing sales with higher bidder. Pursuant to the agency agreement, the entity selected as the highest and best bidder at the auction and approved by the Court would purchase the Inventory for a guaranteed percentage of its net retail value and use its best efforts to sell the furniture, fixtures, and equipment for a commission. To qualify as a qualified bidder, interested parties had to submit their bids. The sale hearing was scheduled for December 18, 2017.
